The magnificent Jennie Maizels was born to be an artist – and an extraordinarily enterprising one. Her artist parents met at Chelsea School of Art and now run the art magazine, Raw Vision.

After graduation from Central St Martins School of Art, Jennie's first commission was to design and make window displays at Harvey Nichols' Knightsbridge store for London Fashion Week. As a result, she was asked to create window displays for The Body Shop and Dillons Bookstores nationwide.

Even when studying illustration, Jennie enjoyed working in 3-D, so making pop-up books was a natural progression. Her 16-year collaboration with renowned children's author Kate Perry, which sadly ended with Kate's death in 2007, was impressively fruitful. The eight books they produced together have sold over two million copies worldwide. The Great Grammar Book was nominated for Children's Book of the Year 1999 and The Global Garden won the Royal Society's Junior Science Book Prize in 2006. Jennie wrote, designed and illustrated the best-selling and award-winning Pop-Up London and Pop-Up New York as well as collaborating with The Reduced Shakespeare Company on Pop-Up Shakespeare.

In 2015, Jennie came up with a revolutionary way for people to learn how to draw and paint (in Jennie's words "Literally like following a recipe") and launched Sketchbook Club online. Its success has been featured in The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Simple Things magazine, to which Jennie will soon contribute regularly.

On top of all this, Jennie is helping to develop the next generation of creatives, lecturing part-time in Illustration and Graphic Arts at Southampton University.

Drawing has always been a passion for Sharon since she was very young and it was her dream to be an illustrator from the age of 15. During her time at the Liverpool John Moore’s University where she studied for a BA in Graphic Design, she felt drawn down the route of children’s book illustration, but it wasn’t until she embarked on the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art that her dream came true.

Since graduating from CSA, she has written and illustrated several picture books with Alison Green Books, Scholastic Uk, as well as illustrating for various fiction books.

Her most recent project is a new series called Animal Explorers, published by Alison Green Books, where different animal characters follow their dreams and go on adventures exploring different places. The first one features a polar bear called Lola who explores the Amazon Rainforest as a Plant Hunter and, in the second book, published in April this year, a tiger called Toby explores the depths of the Deep Sea.

She works mainly from her home studio, but also enjoys taking her sketchbook outside sometimes to draw from life both for pleasure and for building up reference material. She particularly loves drawing trees and, of course, animals.

Matt Robertson grew up in Suffolk and attended Art College in Ipswich, but it wasn't until he started his degree at Cambridge School of Art (CSA) that his love of picture books and story telling really began.

After finishing University he moved to Brighton, where he met his wife Amy, and continued to create and exhibit work. In 2011 they moved to the fine city of Norwich and Matt began his Masters in Children's Book Illustration back at Cambridge School of Art.

Over the last few years he has been fortunate enough to have worked with a number of different publishers over a range of different projects.

Sally Poyton is a neuro diverse writer, who struggles with dyslexia, dyscalculia (like dyslexia but with numbers) and dyspraxia (like dyslexia but with coordination), she also has issues, POTS, Hyper Flexibility, and mobility issues, which means her spelling is wobbly and so is she!

Sally was brought up in Oxfordshire in a home with menagerie of animals with everything from pigeons and parrots, to iguanas and goats. Sally studied Art at University and after graduation she worked in an array of jobs, from professional artist, peddling vegetables and even selling paint to the Queen!

In recent years Sally has worked as a bookseller in, museums and both independent and second-hand bookshops, doing green grass book selling, author events, publicity and even setting up and running a thriving children's department. Sally is an active member of SCBWI-BI having been part of the conference committee and arranging the professional series.

Sally started writing when her children were small; her first novel was honorary mentioned in Undiscovered Voices Anthony 2012. Sally has made The Times / Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition long list twice; in 2013 and 2014. Sally is continuously writing and striving to hone her craft working with Book Bound and The Golden Egg Academy.

Joy has loved drawing and creating stories ever since she was given chocolate as first prize for a 3rd grade art contest. Dark chocolate is often involved in her creative process to this day. With a BS in Illustration and Animation from San Jose State, Joy has worked in a variety of animation, art and design jobs but her favorite place to create is in children’s publishing. She usually scans her hand drawn illustrations and paints them digitally, or just goes for it and draws in the computer. Joy has illustrated many kid’s magazines, over a dozen board books, and her own author- illustrated picture book THE PECULIAR PIG with Nancy Paulsen Books-with her next book,

When not in her studio writing and illustrating, Joy can be found wrangling Monarch butterflies, fostering rescue dogs, eating her vegetables, singing “the hills are alive with the sound of music” while hiking the wild outdoors. She is a sympathetic crier, a lover not a fighter (unless absolutely necessary), and a practicing environmentalist. Joy is raising one particularly brilliant boy and a rescue pup named Olive, along with her hubby in the Bay Area.
