It remains a mystery as to why there should have been such a flowering of exceptionally gifted artists working in watercolour in Britain between 1770 and 1850. Names with which to conjure in this period include Thomas Gainsborough, Edward Dayes, Richard Parkes Bonington, JMW Turner and William Callow. Another of these originals was Francis Towne (1739-1816). Mysteriously, given his highly original and distinctive style, Towne almost disappeared from the canon of British watercolourists for a century, until rediscovered by the connoisseur Paul Oppé in the early decades of the Twentieth Century. Today, fewer and fewer of his pictures remain in private hands.
This stunning greyscale work features Fingle Bridge, a 17th-century stone arch bridge over the River Teign near Drewsteignton, within Dartmoor National Park in Devon. The bridge sits in the base of the deep Teign Gorge, between the ancient hillforts of Prestonbury Castle to the north and Cranbrook Castle to the south and is built on the historic crossing point between the two.
watercolour, pen, pencil and grey wash 10 ½ x 14 ¼ in. (26 x 36 cm.) Framed in a handmade 22 carat gold leaf and gesso frame, with museum quality mounting and UV filter glass

An exciting opportunity to get your hands on two insightful and engaging books by longstanding LPO supporter, Desmond Cecil.
A Violin by Antonio Stradivari, 1724 In 2019 The Strad magazine published a full poster article about ‘An Overlooked Wonder’, and formally gave this violin a name for the first time, the 1724 “Cecil” Stradivari. With a personal preface by Charles Beare and splendid pictures this signed and numbered copy of the Monograph gives fresh historical information about what was until recently a virtually unknown and completely authentic masterpiece.
The Wandering Civil Servant of Stradivarius A captivating and heartfelt memoir from a true music aficionado, a senior British diplomat and a nuclear environmental expert in Russia. This delightful autobiography tells the remarkable journey its author took in his quest to follow his passion to perform music.

A fantastic opportunity to acquire a case of twelve bottles of this stunning wine, 2nd label of the Chateau Kirwan estate.
Charmes de Kirwan holds a larger proportion of merlot usually coming from medium body parcels mainly planted on sandy gravelly soil with limited clay. This provides a fruity, sweet, supple and round character to the wine. With an aging process in vats and in barrels this wine can be drunk young, with a 10-year precocious maturity peak.

This striking image representing the joy and drive of Mahler's Seventh Symphony, by Caroline Tate.
"A celebration of life: as heard in this Seventh Symphony of Gustav Mahler. I have used the musical score of the piece I am demonstrating, in the steps, and shapes on the canvas. It is powerful music, which constantly moves on with great deliberation. There is an energy moving towards the right with a hint of a mountain maybe….Mahler was passionate about Nature which inspired so much of his music and he walked so often in summer months when staying in his composing huts."

Your chance to get hold of this pair of sought-after tickets to see the LPO perform Luisa Miller, following your private tour of the grounds with an LPO musician.
Luisa Miller marks the end of the young Verdi’s ‘years in the galleys’ and the beginning of the composer’s maturity. An intimate domestic drama, rich in human detail and emotion, it shares not just its themes of love, family and class conflict with Rigoletto and La traviata, but also their memorable musical language. From village dances to courtly conspiracies, Verdi paints a broad musical canvas, climaxing in some of the most striking ensembles and finales the composer would ever create.
Tickets are for the performance on Saturday, 7 August 2021. Please note, dining and transport are not included with the performance tickets. Tour of the grounds subject to availability and Covid-19 restriction at the time.

Eto is a beautiful wine decanter that offers the best in both form and function. Hidden inside the innovative design is an award-winning preservation system that allows wine to be savoured over time, without compromising on quality. This is made possible by eto’s unique patented valve that seals the wine perfectly against the oxygen in the air.
Made from high-grade stainless steel and borosilicate glass. The Copper finish is achieved through an advanced physical vapour deposition process, which creates a tough finish that is ten times harder than stainless steel itself.
Eto is thoughtfully designed for wine lovers. Its long funnel gently oxygenates the wine to release its flavours and the sharp lip allows drip free pouring. The name eto means ‘again’ in Welsh a nod to the inventor Tom Cotton’s proud Welsh roots, and the enjoyment of your favourite wine again and again.

When bidding on an auction item, if you enter more than the minimum increment for an item then your bid will be used for proxy bidding. This is how it works:
1. You enter the absolute maximum that you are willing to bid for an item.
2. jumblebee places a bid on your behalf, using the minimum amount required to make you the highest bidder, i.e. current bid price plus bid increment OR the reserve price, if there is one and it can be covered by your proxy bid.
3. jumblebee continues to bid on your behalf, whenever you are outbid by another
member's bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded or the auction is won.
4. jumblebee will notify you by email if your maximum bid is outbid by another member and provided the auction is still running, you will then have a chance to enter a new
maximum bid if you wish.
For example:
The current bid on an auction item is £100. The minimum increment is £10. You enter a bid of £150 (your maximum bid).
Using your bid, but increasing only by the minimum increment, jumblebee sets the current bid to £110.
Another person bids £130 but they are immediately outbid by jumblebee bidding on your behalf and the current bid goes up to £140.
The auction finishes and you have won the auction item at a price of £140.
